REAL SEA MILES ON THE MEDITERRANEAN
At the end of the season the Kairós moves from Malta to Gibraltar, on her way to the Atlantic. For those who love the sea this is pure sailing: long legs, real life on board and unforgettable sunrises.
Depending on the wind the route runs along the coast of North Africa or southern Europe. You enjoy the calm of the open sea, regularly see dolphins and collect valuable sea miles. The highlight is the passage of the Strait of Gibraltar, where the Mediterranean and the Atlantic meet.
THE ROUTE
Malta
Boarding on Malta, with the fortifications of Valletta as a backdrop.
West across the Mediterranean
Sailing day and night, past Sicily, Sardinia or the African coast depending on the wind.
The Strait of Gibraltar
The passage of the Strait and arrival in La Línea, at the foot of the Rock.
EXTRA INFORMATION
LIFE ON BOARD
The Kairós is a 38-metre steel staysail schooner, built in 2007 in the style of a classic yacht and designed by Klaus Röder. She carries 556 m² of sail and sails as a passenger ship under the Maltese flag. A permanent crew of six (captain, mate-engineer, bosun, cook and two stewardesses) looks after the ship and after you. With eight cabins and at most twelve guests it feels like sailing on a large private yacht. Six A cabins of 10 to 11 m² have a fixed double bed and a private bathroom with shower cubicle; the two B cabins of 8 to 9 m² have a small double bed or bunk beds and a private bathroom with classic yacht shower. Every cabin has adjustable air conditioning, a wardrobe, towels and a hair dryer. On deck there is plenty of room to sit and sunbathe, below deck a cosy saloon with bar. On this passage sailing comes first. The ship also sails at night and no landings or swimming stops are planned. You can help set and trim the sails and join a watch, but nothing is compulsory: if you would rather read or watch the sea, you are just as welcome.
WHO IS THIS VOYAGE FOR
For those who want to log real sea miles on a large and safe yacht, with a professional crew and the comfort of a private cabin with bathroom. No sailing experience is needed, though sea legs help.
