THE HOLIDAYS UNDER SAIL

Swap winter for green volcanic islands, long sandy beaches, turquoise water and a constant trade wind. From the French-Dutch St Martin the Kairós first sails some 30 nautical miles south to Saba, the steep Dutch islet rising straight out of the sea.

Then it is on to St Barth, the Saint-Tropez of the Caribbean, where the most beautiful yachts in the world gather around New Year. With good wind you return to St Martin via British Anguilla, with its white beaches.

THE ROUTE

St Martin and Saba

Boarding in Marigot on the French side and crossing to Saba, with its unspoilt nature and dive sites.

St Barth

Anchoring off Gustavia, with chic boutiques, cafés and the festive bustle of the holidays.

Anguilla and back

Swimming and snorkelling at the beaches of Anguilla and back to St Martin.

EXTRA INFORMATION

LIFE ON BOARD

The Kairós is a 38-metre steel staysail schooner, built in 2007 in the style of a classic yacht and designed by Klaus Röder. She carries 556 m² of sail and sails as a passenger ship under the Maltese flag. A permanent crew of six (captain, mate-engineer, bosun, cook and two stewardesses) looks after the ship and after you. With eight cabins and at most twelve guests it feels like sailing on a large private yacht. Six A cabins of 10 to 11 m² have a fixed double bed and a private bathroom with shower cubicle; the two B cabins of 8 to 9 m² have a small double bed or bunk beds and a private bathroom with classic yacht shower. Every cabin has adjustable air conditioning, a wardrobe, towels and a hair dryer. On deck there is plenty of room to sit and sunbathe, below deck a cosy saloon with bar. The pace is relaxed: sailing by day from bay to bay or island to island, with time to swim from the ship, go ashore and enjoy the deck. You are always welcome to help with the sails, but you do not have to. The route is indicative and depends on wind and weather.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need to be able to sail?

No. The permanent crew sails the ship; you may help, but you do not have to.

Do we go ashore every day?

Usually, but wind and weather decide the programme. There is also plenty of time to swim from the ship.
