A TASTE OF THE OCEAN

This passage is a real sailing experience over a manageable distance. From the Strait of Gibraltar it takes a week to reach the Canary Islands, with nights at sea and the Atlantic swell under the keel.

On the Kairós you travel with at most twelve guests and a permanent crew of six. You can join a watch, take the helm and help trim the sails, but you can also simply enjoy the sea.

THE ROUTE

Departure from La Línea

Boarding at the foot of the Rock of Gibraltar and sailing out through the Strait, one of the busiest and most beautiful straits in the world.

On the Atlantic

Southwest along the Moroccan coast, day and night under sail. No landings are planned.

Tenerife

Arrival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with Mount Teide on the horizon.

EXTRA INFORMATION

LIFE ON BOARD

The Kairós is a 38-metre steel staysail schooner, built in 2007 in the style of a classic yacht and designed by Klaus Röder. She carries 556 m² of sail and sails as a passenger ship under the Maltese flag. A permanent crew of six (captain, mate-engineer, bosun, cook and two stewardesses) looks after the ship and after you. With eight cabins and at most twelve guests it feels like sailing on a large private yacht. Six A cabins of 10 to 11 m² have a fixed double bed and a private bathroom with shower cubicle; the two B cabins of 8 to 9 m² have a small double bed or bunk beds and a private bathroom with classic yacht shower. Every cabin has adjustable air conditioning, a wardrobe, towels and a hair dryer. On deck there is plenty of room to sit and sunbathe, below deck a cosy saloon with bar. On this passage sailing comes first. The ship also sails at night and no landings or swimming stops are planned. You can help set and trim the sails and join a watch, but nothing is compulsory: if you would rather read or watch the sea, you are just as welcome.

WHO IS THIS VOYAGE FOR

For those who want to log real sea miles on a large and safe yacht, with a professional crew and the comfort of a private cabin with bathroom. No sailing experience is needed, though sea legs help.
