THE "SMALL" ATLANTIC CROSSING

This voyage is made for those who want to feel the ocean. From the Strait of Gibraltar, where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic, the ship heads southwest, past the African coast and the Canary Islands, to the Cape Verde archipelago.

Along the way you live by the rhythm of wind and watches: sailing day and night, starry skies without light pollution and, with luck, dolphins at the bow. The Chronos is large and stable, with a private cabin and bathroom, so even a long leg stays comfortable.

THE ROUTE

The Strait of Gibraltar

You board in La Línea, at the foot of the Rock of Gibraltar. After the safety briefing the ship sails out into the Atlantic.

Past Africa and the Canary Islands

Southwest with the northeast trade wind behind. Sailing is done in watches; no landings are planned.

Arrival in Mindelo

After about eleven days you reach Mindelo on São Vicente, the liveliest harbour town of Cape Verde, where the voyage ends.

EXTRA INFORMATION

LIFE ON BOARD

The Chronos is a 54-metre Bermuda ketch with 1,000 m² of sail and reaches up to 15 knots: one of the fastest and most beautiful large sailing yachts. She was designed by Klaus Röder, built by the Ark Yacht yard in Bodrum and has sailed since 2013. A crew of ten takes care of sailing, galley and service. There are thirteen twin cabins for up to 26 guests, all with adjustable air conditioning and private bathroom: ten Deluxe cabins of 12 to 13 m² with separate beds or a double bed, two Long cabins of 11 m² with a double bed and a master cabin of 14 m². The large deck has plenty of seating and dining areas; below deck there is a saloon and a bar. On this passage sailing comes first. The ship also sails at night and no landings or swimming stops are planned. You can help set and trim the sails and join a watch, but nothing is compulsory: if you would rather read or watch the sea, you are just as welcome.

WHO IS THIS VOYAGE FOR

For those who want to log real sea miles on a large and safe yacht, with a professional crew and the comfort of a private cabin with bathroom. No sailing experience is needed, though sea legs help.
