VOLCANOES, DESERT AND OCEAN

The Cape Verde Islands lie some 500 kilometres off the coast of West Africa and are still largely undiscovered. Every island is different: rugged volcanic mountains with old footpaths, green gorges with dragon trees, desert-like sandy plains and palm oases.

Around the islands you often see pilot whales and dolphins, and with luck humpback whales. A tour leader tells you along the way about nature, history and the Creole culture, with its music and lively markets.

THE ROUTE

Mindelo and São Nicolau

Departure from Mindelo, the cultural capital with its colonial buildings. Then São Nicolau, with high mountains and bizarre rock formations and hardly any tourism yet.

The sandy islands in the east

On to Boa Vista (and Sal in November 2027): long white beaches, dunes and turquoise water.

Santo Antão and back

Finally Santo Antão, the greenest and most mountainous island, ideal for a walk through the gorges, and back to São Vicente.

EXTRA INFORMATION

LIFE ON BOARD

The Chronos is a 54-metre Bermuda ketch with 1,000 m² of sail and reaches up to 15 knots: one of the fastest and most beautiful large sailing yachts. She was designed by Klaus Röder, built by the Ark Yacht yard in Bodrum and has sailed since 2013. A crew of ten takes care of sailing, galley and service. There are thirteen twin cabins for up to 26 guests, all with adjustable air conditioning and private bathroom: ten Deluxe cabins of 12 to 13 m² with separate beds or a double bed, two Long cabins of 11 m² with a double bed and a master cabin of 14 m². The large deck has plenty of seating and dining areas; below deck there is a saloon and a bar. This theme voyage is accompanied by a tour leader who tells you more about the islands, their nature and culture along the way. There is time for walks ashore, swimming and of course sailing between the islands.

WHO IS THIS VOYAGE FOR

For those who want to combine nature, walking and culture with sailing, in an area still seldom visited by tourists. No sailing experience is needed; reasonable fitness for walks is useful.
