BUILDING SEA MILES AT A LOW PRICE

This is a repositioning voyage: the ship has to reach its next cruising area on time and therefore travels mainly under engine, unless the wind allows sailing. That is why a lower price applies.

For those who love the sea, such a passage is special: under way day and night, standing watch with the crew, past the entire Spanish coast and the transition from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic at Gibraltar.

THE ROUTE

Sète

You board in Sète, on the Languedoc coast.

Along the Spanish coast

South-west across the Gulf of Lion and along the Balearics and the Spanish east coast.

Gibraltar

Through the Strait of Gibraltar onto the Atlantic, one of the busiest and most beautiful straits in the world.

Lisbon

North along the Algarve and up the Tagus to Lisbon, under the 25 de Abril bridge.

EXTRA INFORMATION

LIFE ON BOARD

The Santa Maria Manuela is a 68-metre steel four-masted schooner, built in 1937 for the Portuguese cod fishery off Newfoundland and Greenland, the famous White Fleet. After a thorough restoration she has been sailing again since 2010, now with guests. Every cabin has its own bathroom with shower: shared cabins with bunks for four to six people (separate for men and women), cabins with a bunk bed or a double bed, and spacious master cabins for two to four people. A permanent crew sails the ship; you are always welcome to help, but you do not have to. You can help hoist and trim the sails, take the helm, learn knots or climb the mast under supervision. If you prefer to rest, find a spot on deck or in the bowsprit net. Meals are provided on board and eaten together.

WHO IS THIS VOYAGE FOR
