ISLAND AND CITY IN ONE VOYAGE

Around Easter 2027 the Santa Maria Manuela sails from the Spanish mainland to Mallorca and back to the coast of Catalonia. A short voyage with plenty of variety: days at sea, a port stop and two world cities.

Spring is ideal: the sea is calm, it is pleasantly warm and the big summer crowds have not yet arrived.

THE ROUTE

Valencia

Arrive a little early for a paella in the city where it comes from, or a visit to the old town, and then board.

To Mallorca

East across the Balearic Sea. You get used to life on board and, if you like, help with the sails and the helm.

Palma de Mallorca

In Palma you stroll through the old town with its shady courtyards to the Gothic cathedral La Seu above the harbour.

Barcelona

After another stretch of sailing you reach Barcelona. Stay a few days for the Gothic Quarter, Gaudí and the markets.

EXTRA INFORMATION

LIFE ON BOARD

The Santa Maria Manuela is a 68-metre steel four-masted schooner, built in 1937 for the Portuguese cod fishery off Newfoundland and Greenland, the famous White Fleet. After a thorough restoration she has been sailing again since 2010, now with guests. Every cabin has its own bathroom with shower: shared cabins with bunks for four to six people (separate for men and women), cabins with a bunk bed or a double bed, and spacious master cabins for two to four people. A permanent crew sails the ship; you are always welcome to help, but you do not have to. You can help hoist and trim the sails, take the helm, learn knots or climb the mast under supervision. If you prefer to rest, find a spot on deck or in the bowsprit net. Meals are provided on board and eaten together.
