ISLAND HOPPING IN THE SOUTH DANISH ARCHIPELAGO

The South Danish archipelago is a sheltered sailing area full of islands, green hills and old harbour towns with half-timbered houses. The water is usually calm, making it an ideal place to get to know sailing on a large ship at a relaxed pace.

Sailing is at the heart of this trip: plenty of time on the water, life on board and a constant stream of new views along the Baltic coast.

THE ROUTE

Kiel

You board in Kiel in the afternoon and meet the crew. The Kiel Fjord makes a fine start straight away.

The Danish islands

Depending on the wind, the Artemis sails past islands such as Ærø, Langeland or Lolland, with their sheltered bays and picturesque harbours.

Across the Baltic

The final stretch takes you across open water to the German coast.

Rostock

The voyage ends around midday in Rostock, the Hanseatic city on the Warnow.

Artemis

Bouwjaar 1926

The triple masted barque Artemis is a beautiful example of maritime tradition. The ship was built in Norway in 1926 as a whaler. She then served as a freighter transporting goods between Asia and South-America. Since 2001 the Artemis returned to sail in european waters, honouring the great maritime tradition of the Netherlands.
