ACROSS THE NORTH SEA, ALMOST TO YOUR DOOR

This is a repositioning voyage: the ship has to reach its next cruising area on time and therefore travels mainly under engine, unless the wind allows sailing. That is why a lower price applies.

For travellers from Belgium and the Netherlands this may be the most convenient voyage of the season: you end in Dunkirk, just over the border, and build real sea miles for a week along the way.

THE ROUTE

Stavanger

Board in the port of Stavanger, on the south-west coast of Norway.

The North Sea

South across the open North Sea, past oil fields, shipping lanes and seabirds.

The Strait of Dover

Along the Dutch and Belgian coast to the narrowest point between the continent and England.

Dunkirk

Arrival in Dunkirk, a port city with a rich maritime past.

EXTRA INFORMATION

LIFE ON BOARD

The Santa Maria Manuela is a 68-metre steel four-masted schooner, built in 1937 for the Portuguese cod fishery off Newfoundland and Greenland, the famous White Fleet. After a thorough restoration she has been sailing again since 2010, now with guests. Every cabin has its own bathroom with shower: shared cabins with bunks for four to six people (separate for men and women), cabins with a bunk bed or a double bed, and spacious master cabins for two to four people. A permanent crew sails the ship; you are always welcome to help, but you do not have to. You can help hoist and trim the sails, take the helm, learn knots or climb the mast under supervision. If you prefer to rest, find a spot on deck or in the bowsprit net. Meals are provided on board and eaten together.
