Set sail to Easter Island

Pacific Ocean

Puerto Montt - Chile > Juan Fernandez island group > Rapa Nui - Easter island > Hanga Roa - Easter Island

Cruising between Patagonia and Polynesia

Puerto Montt is situated on the Lake District of Chili. Founded by German settlers, influences of this time can still be seen in this rapidly growing city of >200.000 inhabitants. The waterfront offers a beautiful view of both the colorful city as well as the bay.

Although sheltered from the Pacific Ocean, it is only a day sail away before you are out on the blue water. Depending on weather and wind, a plan will be made for the first few days. This may include one or more stops in the Lake District.

Setting sail from Chilean mainland, this voyage will include a stop on the Juan Fernandez island group. A small group of Islands situated 550 miles North West of Puerto Montt. With a prevailing wind along the coast of Southerly or South Westerly winds, this sail should take around 3/4 days maybe 5. The biggest island of the island group is Robinson Crusoe Island. There are several sheltered anchorages possible, depending on wind. The smaller islands are hard to acces with bigger swell, so a visit to any other island depends on weather.

After this sail will be set for Easter Island, Rapa Nui. A crossing of 1650 miles. This should take around 10 days.

Rapa Nui, the island known for the Moai, the standing heads, tropical, wonderful, somewhere you may only go once! And for us, even twice!

Sail Training Program

On board the tecla we work with a Sail training program developed by the Dutch Sail Training Association (STAN). This sail training program is not only about learning to sail but uses sailing as a tool for personal development. Trainees on board are encouraged to step out of the comfort zone to experience new things. This applies to all ages! At the end of the trip, long or short, the trainees get a logbook containing the past process and how far they have come. Different skills are developed depending on the length of the trip. These can come in handy in a professional sailing environment as well as outside the maritime world.

Sail training makes sailing that slightly more than an active vacation.
