BREST
Every year a number of sailing trips are organized by the Clipper Stad Amsterdam. Whether you are an experienced sailor or not, we are more than pleased to invite you to join our crew on one of these adventurous sailing holidays.
The city of Brest is located at the very western tip of the French peninsula of Brittany. The port of Brest where this sailing trip will start has had an important strategic position for centuries. The famous Pointe du Raz at Finistère is an amazing coastal point with steep and impressive 70-metre cliffs.
In case you decide to visit the city of Brest you may want to stroll along the Rue de Saint-Malo to explore that part of the historic district that remained undamaged after the bombing in the Second World War. Did you know that the world's oldest maritime museum is located in Brest? The museum is located in Brest Castle which is definitely worth visiting as well! The Brest Cable Car is open for passenger service and will offer you a beautiful view of the town. Perhaps you also like to try eating delicious fresh crab at a well-known local restaurant.

ALONG RUGGED COASTS
On August 24 it is time for you to embark the unique sailing vessel Clipper Stad Amsterdam. The captain and his crew will start with welcoming you on board and all crew members will introduce themselves. When all safety procedures have been taken care of a delicious meal will be served in our longroom.
Once at sea, the Clipper will be sailing north along the northern coast of France and along the Channel Islands Guernsey & Jersey and the Isle of Wight. After sailing through the strait between Great Britain and France - the English Channel - Rotterdam will be reached.
Learn all about how to sail on a three mast tall ship during the approximately 520 nautical miles at sea and experience how very special life on board really is. When all the (hard) work is done, there will be plenty of time to enjoy nature and the calmness at sea.
AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE
Imagine standing on the lookout surrounded by nothing but the sea. The waves, being rough every now and then, maybe some other ships and sometimes even dolphins playfully dancing just ahead of the bow. On the other hand, one could also relax reading a book in the longroom. We have a well-stocked library on board.
The meals are enjoyed along with the crew in the longroom at times adjusted to the watches. Every night the captain will give a short briefing of the mileage achieved on the day before, the mileage still to go and any other points of interest.
All and all ingredients for an unforgettable experience!
SAILING AND WATCHES
The ship’s crew stands watch in three shifts. These shifts are called the Red Watch (from 12- 4 AM and PM), the White Watch (from 4-8 AM and PM) and the Blue Watch (from 8-12 AM and PM).
If you like, you can join one of these watches. This way you can fully experience the works on a ship like Stad Amsterdam. Setting the sails, keeping lookout, setting the course or standing watch: you can participate in all of it.
As a member of the Red Watch, you can admire the peacefulness of being at sea and the endless starry sky. In the White Watch you will experience the break of dawn like you never did before while in the Blue Watch you can enjoy the sailing while maintaining a regular day and night rhythm.
ROTTERDAM
After the passage of the narrowest part of the English Channel between Calais and Dover, you can have a look at Belgium and The Netherlands from a different perspective! Opt for a high position in one of the three masts or stay low(er) on deck.
On Friday, August 30th, the Clipper will be moored in the port of Rotterdam. This city along the river "Nieuwe Maas" has a world-famous port and features some wonderful architecture like the modern cube houses and the Euromast Tower. Rotterdam also has a great variety of museums, restaurants and there are many activities to enjoy. Your last evening on board will be well spent!

WELCOME ABOARD
The captain and his 30 crew members would like to welcome you
ON DECK
On the upper deck you can imagine yourself on a historic clipper from the nineteenth century. The beautiful bridge, the three enormous masts, the lines on deck, the beautifully maintained teak woodwork, the crew that lifts the sails the way it did in the nineteenth century: everything breathes the atmosphere of the rugged, nineteenth-century seafaring. At the same time, the passenger sailing ship Stad Amsterdam also has the luxury of the 21st century in store for you.
While the crew keeps the ship on course, our hospitality crew serves delicious drinks and snacks from the bar on deck, prepared by our chef in his galley.
THE LONGROOM
The longroom has a spacious bar and a small library. There is room for 55 people during a served lunch or dinner. The warm woodwork, the many copper and the round staircase with ornate bars are reminiscent of the look of the legendary Cutty Sark. Of course, all modern audio-visual means, for presentations and the like, are available.
THE CABINS
The 14 guest cabins are located on the inner deck and all have a porthole. Each cabin has a telephone (with satellite connection) and air conditioning. They are equipped as standard for two people, but can easily be adapted for a stay with three or four people.
All cabins are equipped with a private bathroom with sink, shower and toilet. The finish with lots of wood and copper work gives the cabins a classic look. All cabins are similar in layout and have an area of about 11 m².
