sailing van Ostend to Brussel on tall ship Morgenster

North Sea

Discover the Belgian waters aboard the beautiful tall ship Morgenster. This Brik takes us from Ostend, the life of the North Sea in the Western Scheldt past Antwerp and then via the Willebroek Canal to the Belgian capital of Brussels. Experience how locks and bridges make it possible to reach the heart of Belgium with such a large sailing ship. Along the way, stay along the wall of Antwerp, the quay, to visit this metropolis. Roll up your sleeves aboard the morning of enjoying the passing landscape.

Gesproken talen aan boord: Dutch, German, English

In Ostend you come on board and meet the crew and fellow guests. We do some instruction and enjoy a nice meal. In the evening we can take a walk through Ostend.

The next morning we set course for the North Sea with good timing with the current of the Scheldt. This river meanders along banks and islands and is quite difficult for the very large ships we encounter here. After quite a few wooded bends, the medieval skyline of this delightful city emerges.

We moor along the Steen, the castle on the quay, near the maritime museum. The next day we stay in Antwerp for beautiful walks and a visit to one of the very interesting museums, such as Museum Aan de Stroom, Mayer van de Bergh or the Rubens House.

On Friday morning we sail further up the ever narrowing river to the Wintam locks to enter the Willebroek Canal. We pass impressive high lift bridges and locks with a considerable rise before we moor within walking distance of the center of Brussels. On Saturday morning we say goodbye after a nice breakfast.

Sail with us!

Experience the nostalgic feeling of traveling with a tall ship. The Morgenster is a fullblood sailing training ship. The many sails with their halliards, sheets and many lines requires great teamwork. The trainees are full members of the crew. They are involved in all aspects of life at sea. The sensation of real sailing with a rigged clipper brik breeds team spirit, promotes smooth cooperation and trains functional leadership. That is why we provide Sea Experience trips for various schools, nautical schools and the Royal Netherlands Navy.
