Trip description
If you are looking for relaxation, then this trip is for you. The Santa Maria Manuela leaves the city of Funchal for the golden beach of Porto Santo. Upon return, the ship sails through the natural sanctuary of Ilhas Desertas.
The nine golden kilometers of fine sand, surrounded by the turquoise water of the Atlantic Ocean, is a wonderful destination for those who want to escape winter. The ship is anchored at this beach. The beach is said to have medicinal properties. After a dive in the warm water of Porto Santo and a walk in the sand dunes, we return to the ship for sunset.
We leave Porto Santo to the north and go to the Ilas Desertas nature reserve, three uninhabited islands in their purest state. (Deserta Grande, Ilhéu Chão and Bugio). The islands house rare populations of breeding seabirds such as Cory's Shearwater, Bulwer's Petrel, Band-Rumped Strom Petrel and Yellow-legged Gull, as well as the Buzzard, Kestrel and Barn Owl. Another local highlight is the possibility to spot Mediterranean monk seal.
Santa Maria Manuela then returns to Madeira with its ancient laurel forest, unique water canals, waterfalls, breathtaking vistas and the ever thriving and charming town of Funchal.
