the Caribbean

St. Maarten > Saint-Barthélemy > JOST VAN DYKE > Norman Island > Cooper Island > Virgin Gorda > Anguilla > St. Maarten

Every year in wintertime a number of luxury sailing cruises are organized on board the square rigged tall ship Clipper Stad Amsterdam. Whether you are an experienced sailor or not, we are more than pleased to invite you to join us on one of our luxury sailing holidays.

The captain and his crew welcome you on board the Clipper Stad Amsterdam on December 12. After the welcoming dinner and a good night sleep the first sails will be set the next morning! On this sailing cruise which starts and ends in Saint Martin we like you to experience the very best that this Caribbean archipelago has to offer. Depending on the wind and 'swell' conditions, sailing will be according to the following program:

Before sailing towards the British Virgin Islands our first stop will be Saint-Barthélemy or simply Saint Barths. This island, which is about three hours sailing from Saint Martin, is a favorite holiday destination for many celebrities from around the world and therefore often referred to as 'St.Tropez of the Caribbean'. The island has a mix of iguanas, cacti that bloom only at night, beautiful beaches and luxury yachts, but the special designer boutiques in Gustavia will probably attract the most attention. Before the Clipper will anchor near the island's capital in the evening, you may enjoy a refreshing dive into the crystal clear blue waters of the Caribbean Sea or go snorkling. The most exotic and stunning colored fish can be admired under water.

The Clipper will resume her voyage in the afternoon of the next day after a delicious breakfast and a nice visit at Gustavia. Dinner will be served at sea in the evening and the sailing contines during the entire night. In the course of the next day we will drop anchor at Jost Van Dyke. The island roughly covers eight square kilometers and is the smallest of the British Virgin Islands. It is believed that the island owes her name to the Dutch pirate 'Joost van Dyk'. In the evening we will visit Foxy's Bar. This world famous beach bar serves delicious homemade rum.

Norman Island will be our next stop and the passage at Soper's Hole on the way will certainly be a highlight. The narrow passage always is a very exciting experience for a tallship such as Clipper Stad Amsterdam. Norman Island is the most southern island of the British Virgin Islands.

The island has no inhabitants and is privately owned. We like to take you to superb snorkeling spots where you can also enjoy the beautiful beach. Perhaps you like to swim around the ship instead while admiring the very beautiful surroundings.

The sailing from Norman Island to Cooper Island will take us about 8 hours. The island is one in a string of small islands and is largely privately owned. The beautiful white sandy beach, superb snorkeling possibilities and a cozy beach club make a short stay very enjoyable. With a small party on board we will end our visit to this island.

Today, after a sailing trip of several hours, we arrive at Spanish Town on Virgin Gorda where we will drop our anchor. A very tasteful dinner is served on board. In the evening you may want to explore the small town 'Spanish Town' with nice shops and various cozy bars and restaurants.

The following morning we visit the natural phenomenon of the Baths on Virgin Gorda. This is a volcanic and 70 million years old area, consisting of a maze of mainly underwater caves. Crystal clear water, white sands and huge cliffs with various salty water basins in between to bathe in. Lunch will be served at the beautiful 'Savannah beach'.

When we have finished our lunch we will leave Virgin Gorda and continue our voyage. After one night and an entire morning sailing we will arrive at the island of Anguilla. Here you can swim to your heart's content and spend time on the beautiful beach. A delicious captain's and farewell dinner will be prepared for you in the evening.

After breakfast the next day it is just a very short distance to Phillipsburg where we have to say goodbye.

We hope this cruise has been an unforgettable experience!

The Clipper is 76 meters long and has 31 sails with a total surface of 2200 square meters. The ship has an authentic squared rig, a sharp clipper bow and sails as a passenger ship under the Dutch flag. The Clipper has 14 luxury cabins, a spacious dining room (the longroom) for dinners and presentations and an outdoor bar. The Clipper Stad Amsterdam can be booked privately for luxury cruises and corporate events. In addition, you can stay on board for a luxurious cruise or an adventurous sailing trip.

The captain and his 30 crew members would like to welcome you

On the upper deck you can imagine yourself on a historic clipper from the nineteenth century. The beautiful bridge, the three enormous masts, the lines on deck, the beautifully maintained teak woodwork, the crew that lifts the sails the way it did in the nineteenth century: everything breathes the atmosphere of the rugged, nineteenth-century seafaring. At the same time, the passenger sailing ship Stad Amsterdam also has the luxury of the 21st century in store for you.

While the crew keeps the ship on course, our hospitality crew serves delicious drinks and snacks from the bar on deck, prepared by our chef in his galley.

The longroom has a spacious bar and a small library. There is room for 55 people during a served lunch or dinner. The warm woodwork, the many copper and the round staircase with ornate bars are reminiscent of the look of the legendary Cutty Sark. Of course, all modern audio-visual means, for presentations and the like, are available.

The 14 guest cabins are located on the inner deck and all have a porthole. Each cabin has a telephone (with satellite connection) and air conditioning. They are equipped as standard for two people, but can easily be adapted for a stay with three or four people.

All cabins are equipped with a private bathroom with sink, shower and toilet. The finish with lots of wood and copper work gives the cabins a classic look. All cabins are similar in layout and have an area of about 11 m².
