Crossing from Tenerife to Cabo Verde

Atlantic ocean

Tenerife > Sal - Cabo Verde

The OOSTERSCHELDE is waiting for you in the port of Santa Cruz on the island of Tenerife. From this Canary Island we sail directly to the Cape Verde Islands.

This part of our journey is usually very enjoyable. We pick up the favorable Northeast trade winds and the Canary Current also gives us a boost. And we are now so south that the temperature is pleasant.

With a walking wind, as it is called, and with this good weather, we spend a lot of time on deck. There is not much shipping here, but if you pay attention there is a lot to see. Seabirds (at this latitude you will see other species), but also dolphins, flying fish, the occasional sunfish and if we are lucky maybe even a turtle or whale. We hope to cover the 700 miles from Tenerife to Sal soon. It is therefore possible that we arrive a little earlier, but no later than January 3 we drop anchor in the bay at Palmeira, Cape Verde.

The next day, after breakfast, you will disembark. There is plenty of accommodation to be found on Sal and we recommend extending your stay in Cape Verde by a few days before flying back home.

This trip is suitable for anyone who has good mobility and is sufficiently fit and healthy. Some wind or sea conditions can be expected on certain routes, but in heavy weather or if necessary, the ship can be in port within 24 hours.

Atlasail would like the OOSTERSCHELDE to be accessible to the widest possible audience, but you have to realize that you are making a sea voyage on board a sailing ship and that that requires more from your physical body than a daily walk. Moreover, some journeys are more challenging than others. Not sure if a trip is right for you? Please contact us.

Oosterschelde

Year of Construction 1917

Sailing along on a tall ship is a special experience. The Oosterschelde sailing ship has been sailing the 7 seas since 1917. Today you can sail on a sailing cruise in modern comfort. The sailingship is 50m long and offers a multi-day sailing holiday with 24 guests. With 3 masts and many sails we try to provide sustainable island hopping and ocean crossing. The huge salon and the cozy cabins will put you in a holiday mood. She prefers to sail to the Azores and sail in Cape Verde.
